It is the year 713 YW. Shadows encircle the unsuspecting lands of the humans. Benefiting from the civil war within Wesnoth, enemies conspire to bring ruin to the kingdom. Rising from the ashes of Mal-Ravanal's invasion, Mal-Raval, apprentice of the arch-lich himself, gathers forces to destroy the human empire once and for all.
As darkness nears Elensefar, it remains in the hands of lord Soranic to stem the evil afore its blight spreads any further. To do so, he must unite the squabbling Wesnothians, together with his own people, under a single banner.
